Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is investigating an accident involving a BNSF train and a wheelchair occupant, at the crossing at Second Avenue, East near First Street, in downtown Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred in the 1-p.m. hour.<\/p>\n

Lt. Justin Blinsky says the train was westbound, at a relatively low rate of speed when the 60 year old man crossed in front of the train in his wheelchair, and was struck by the train.<\/p>\n

The train came to a stop within about 75 yards just short of the 1st Avenue crossing.<\/p>\n

The man was transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center, by Jamestown Area Ambulance Service,\u00a0with undisclosed injuries.\u00a0 The man was conscious and moving\u00a0when he was transported\u00a0by the ambulance<\/p>\n

Police \u00a0Sgt Mann says the crossings of 2nd Ave NE, 7th Ave NE, & 3rd St NE will be closed to traffic\u00a0about 2-3\u00a0 hours, until the investigation is concluded. \u00a0Motorists should plan on using an alternate route.<\/p>\n

Investigators from BNSF will be on the scene later, Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Lottery says a Powerball ticket worth $1 million was sold in Jamestown.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The lottery says the ticket in Wednesday night’s drawing matched all five white balls, making it worth $1 million. No one has come forward yet to claim the prize.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The ticket was sold at Dan’s Sooper Stop, and the store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The committee recommends awarding the bid for the 2016 Seal Coat, Patching, Construction & Reconstruction District #16-41 to Border States Paving, Inc., in the amount of $1,841,367.55.<\/p>\n

The committee recommends awarding the bid for a new motor grader to RDO Equipment, Inc., in the amount of $270,000.00 with a guaranteed buyback of $169,000.00, and including a $0 cost of repairs for 4500 hours or six years, for a net cost of $100,900.00.<\/p>\n

The committee recommends awarding the bid for the 2016 Sidewalk, Curb & Gutter District # 16-11 to LD Concrete, Jamestown, ND, in the amount of $58,127.05.<\/p>\n

Moved to the City Council without recommendation accepting the plans & specifications for the Cavendish Water Tower Interior Recoating Project and to authorize the Advertisement for Bids for the project. More information was needed.<\/p>\n

The committee to approve a resolution to authorize the submission of a DWSRF loan application to the ND Public Finance Authority to fund the Southwest Water main Replacement Project District #16-62.<\/p>\n

The committee considered the request of Prentice Kollman regarding the possibility of extending the frontage road on the west side of 281 South, south of 25th <\/span><\/span>St SW, having purchased lots. The area is near the Chinese Restaurant.<\/p>\n

The committee, pending a formal proposal and information from the NDDOT on costs, tabled the matter.<\/p>\n

Discussion was held to determined possible action necessary regarding the Solid Waste Study including recycling, performed by HDR Engineering.<\/p>\n

Mayor Andersen said with recycling, \u00a0costs of containers, and surveys of the existing customer base is needed, concerning container size, \u00a0and\u00a0 she suggests a “pay as you throw,” fee schedule, and later, implement an automated equipment system.<\/p>\n

She said a request for proposals to hire a contractor would come next.<\/p>\n

Joan Morris from the City Beautification Committee asked about a time line.<\/p>\n

Mayor Andersen said information and public meetings should be in place by budgeting for 2017, in July this year, including requests for proposals.<\/p>\n

Morris indicated a willingness of the CBC to assist with a draft for the RFPs.<\/p>\n

The committee recommends authorizing the CBC to draw up the draft.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, Executive, Becky Thatcher-Keller said the Chamber of Commerce, and CBC is willing to spearhead a public education effort including what items can be recycled.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department, has started the Operation: Butt Out, campaign, in the hope of eliminating smoking material fires.<\/p>\n

City Fire Chief, Jim Reuther says Jamestown is joining other fire departments in the state who believe the campaign is another step in preventing smoking material fires, and provide a safer environment for individuals and their families.<\/p>\n

(CSi) The Gospel Side of Elvis” with the Blackwood Quartet is coming to Jamestown in May. The performance is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the Reiland Fine Arts Center at the University of Jamestown. Doors open at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

The Blackwood family has received nine Grammy Awards, is in the Grammy Hall of Fame, The Memphis Music Hall of Fame, The Nashville Music Hall of Fame, The Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and many more.<\/p>\n

Bill Gaither has said, “The Blackwood name is the best known name in gospel music worldwide.”<\/p>\n

Cecil Blackwood was a childhood friend of Elvis Presley. They attended Sunday school together and formed their first gospel quartet called “The Songfellas,” long before Presley went on to become the King of Rock \u2018n Roll.<\/p>\n

Ron Blackwood knew Elvis Presley personally. He went to church with him and was also J.D. Sumner and The Stamps Quartet\u2019s business manager for years.<\/p>\n

Today Mark Blackwood fronts The Blackwood Quartet and continues the tradition of his family and their association with Presley. In “The Gospel Side of Elvis” the group performs Presley\u2019s personal favorites including “Amazing Grace,” “You\u2019ll Never Walk Alone” and “Crying In The Chapel.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – An Iowa man who engaged police in a shootout after robbing a downtown Fargo motel has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-year-old Eric Webb, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, pleaded guilty in January to three counts, including use of a firearm during a crime of violence. Authorities say Webb fired a gun into the front desk of the Howard Johnson motel during the June 4 robbery and later shot at two police officers. Webb was shot during the exchange and spent several weeks in a hospital.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutor Keith Reisenauer said during Thursday’s sentencing hearing that Webb has shown no regret for his actions. Defense attorney Christopher Lancaster said Webb suffers from mental health issues and has trouble communicating his remorse.

PISEK, N.D. (AP) – Authorities are investigating vandalism at a historic church in northeastern North Dakota. Walsh County Sheriff Ron Jurgens says fire extinguishers were sprayed throughout St. Johns Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pisek, which caused “a real mess.” The Rev. Prasad Marneni says the church has been closed since vandals struck about two weeks ago. He says a thin residue of white powder has covered everything from pews to carpeting.<\/p>\n
