Binford  (CSi)  The north Dakota Highway Patrol reports a 35-year-old Binford woman was killed in a rollover Saturday morning on N.D. Highway 65, near milepost 2, about 2.5 miles east of Binford.

The report says 34 year old Matthew Bakke, of Binford, was driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee west on Highway 65 at about 2:27 a.m. The patrol says the Jeep crossed the eastbound lane and entered the south ditch. Bakke lost control of the Jeep, overcorrected back onto the roadway and entered the north ditch. The Jeep’s tires got caught in the ditch, causing the Jeep to roll several times. The rolling Jeep was stopped upright after it struck a tree.

Bakke was injured in the crash. His passenger, the 35-year-old Binford woman, died from her injuries she sustained from the crash.

The patrol said Bakke was not wearing a seat belt. His passenger was wearing a seat belt.

Bakke was transported by Cooperstown Ambulance to Cooperstown Medical Center and later transported by Life Flight to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

The patrol said alcohol was a contributing factor in the rollover.

The crash remains under investigation by the patrol.

The Griggs County Sheriff’s Department, Steele County Sheriff’s Office and Binford Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.
