Dolores Frey, 92, of Jamestown, passed away Sat March 30, 2024 at SMP Health-Ave Maria in Jamestown.
Dolores was born October 24, 1931 at Jamestown Hospital, to William and Emma (Krein) Bitterman, the first of their 6 children. Dolores was raised on a farm near Buchanan and graduated from Buchanan High School in 1949. She attended Valley City College in Valley City, ND, and taught at a one-room country school in Cleveland, ND, for a year.
Dolores met her husband Norman Glenn Frey at a 4-H convention. They married on August 19, 1951. After Norman completed his service in the U.S. Army in 1952, they moved onto Norman’s family farm in Bloom township, where they raised 3 children. Dolores had a retail sales career as well, at stores such as the Fair Store, Zeigler Fabrics, Feinstein’s, Christopher & Banks, and Fashion Boutique. Dolores and Norman enjoyed dancing at the Elks, going to the musical in Medora, and later, vacationing with grandkids at family camp.
Dolores was an energetic woman, who generously shared her many talents with her family, church, and community. Dolores was active with the Bloom Homemakers, was a 4-H Leader, and taught quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She was head cook for the German Supper at St. John’s Lutheran Church for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress, and also baked and artistically decorated delicious cakes for weddings and many other occasions, for family and clients. She is especially remembered for her generous batches of knoephla, rolled pancakes, date-filled cookies, kuchen, and pies. Her family could count on always finding something in the cookie jar.
