Julia Fischer, 86, Fargo, ND formerly of Edgeley, ND passed away Friday, July 5, 2024 at Riverview Place, Fargo, ND.
Julia Catherine Biegler was born December 13, 1937, in Strasburg, ND, the daughter of Peter and Walburg Biegler. She was one of 16 children. The family moved to a farm in rural Edgeley in 1943. Julia attended country school and moved into town in 9th grade, graduating from Edgeley High School in 1956. Julia completed her nursing degree in 1959 from The Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Grand Forks, ND.
Julia married Richard G. McGuire on November 23, 1960. They had four children Kim, Patty, Stacey and Kyle.
While working as a nurse, she went back to school and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Anesthesia in Fargo, ND. Julia became the director of Anesthesia at St. John’s Hospital. Her career took her to Minneapolis working at Fairview and Southdale Hospitals. She then moved to Lufkin and Jasper, Texas where she was a self-employed Anesthetist. In 2000, she moved back to Minnesota and built a home on Lake Ida, intending to slow down. Loving her career, Julia continued working for hospitals in Detroit Lakes, and Roseau until she retired in 2006.
She moved to Fargo in 2008 to be closer to family and friends during her retirement. She enjoyed her free time traveling, playing cards, golfing, and spending time with family and friends. She was very active in her Church with many volunteer positions.
She married Doug Fisher, a high school classmate on August 22, 2015. They lived in Auburn, Washington until May of 2021 when they moved back to Fargo, ND. Julia is survived by her husband, her four children, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, six sisters, three brothers, and many friends and fellow healthcare workers whose lives she touched.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, ND with Fr. Dale Lagodinski presiding. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley, ND.
