Fort Ransom, ND (CSi) Fort Ransom Sodbuster Days is September 7 & 8, at Fort Ransom State Park in the Sheyenne River Valley. The annual event has been held for nearly four decades and gives visitors a glimpse of how North Dakota’s early settlers lived.

It’s a family event with turn-of-the-century demonstrations involving cooking, blacksmithing, small engine work, threshing, haying and weaving.

Events start on September 7 with field presentations starting at 10 a.m. Those in attendance can observe as workers use century-old methods to fill the 100-year-old Sunne Barn hay loft.

Some highlights of the two-day event include: Corn sheller, a parade at 10am Saturday, Sawmill, Wheelwright demo, dig your own potatoes, horse threshing and quilt silent auction.

Admission is $10 per person, and children ages 12 and under are free.

The Fort Ransom State Park daily vehicle entrance fee is waived during Sodbuster Days. The event is sponsored by the Fort Ransom Sodbuster Association and the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department. There are shuttle rides available from the parking area to the Sunne Farm and there will be food and beverages available at the event.
