FREMONT, Neb. – The sixth-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men’s hockey team swept a weekend series with Midland (Neb.) University winning 5-4 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At the 5:01 mark of the first period, Mario DeCapite scored on a rebound goal as the Jimmies took a 1-0 lead. Jordan Baranesky, and Matthew Poole got the assists.
- Near the end of the first period at the 18:48 mark, Brad Fortin scored his 16th goal of the season and became the Jimmies’ all-time point leader. Griffin Bourassa made a nice drop pass as Fortin walked in from the top of the circle and ripped the puck far side, beating the Midland goaltender. Bourassa, and James Hooten assisted on the goal.
- With back-to-back goals from Midland putting the Jimmies on their heels, Baranesky made a nice move off the wall, sliding one past the Warrior goaltender to give the Jimmies a 3-2 lead heading into the third period. Chase Visser got credit for the assist.
- Goals at the 4:24 and 7:00 minute mark of the third period helped the Warriors take a 4-3 lead, again forcing the Jimmies to fight back in the game.
- After some back-and-forth action from both teams, Kole Christensson found the back of the net with a power play goal, tying the game once again at the 11:24 mark of the third period.
- Nearing the end of the third period, Daruis Makse made a nice stretch pass to Jacob Thomas, who scored a five-hole goal, his fourth of the year, putting the Jimmies ahed with under four minutes left.
- The Warriors put pressure on the Jimmies trying to get the equalizer, but goaltender Brandon Weare came up big and made some timely saves, helping the Jimmies hang on to a 5-4 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jordan Baranesky’s 15th goal of the year gave the Jimmies a 1-0 lead at the 14:06 mark of the first period, and was assisted by Kole Christensson and Mario Decapite.
- A little more than four minutes later, the Warriors scored on a shot from the point, tying the game 1-1.
- 58 seconds into the 2nd period, the Warriors broke the tie and three minutes later added another goal to take a 3-1 lead.
- Alex Erichuk scored on the power play for the Jimmies at the 9:07 mark of 2nd period, cutting the lead to one goal. Assisting on the goal were Carter Johnson and Chase Visser.
- Down 3-2 entering the third period, UJ looked for some momentum to complete the comeback. A great play by Philippe Lessard at the offensive blue line led to a pass to Darius Makse and he scored his 14th of the year to tie the game at 3-3.
- Riding the wave of momentum, the Jimmies scored with just 1:46 left in the third. Jacob Thomas capitalized on the power play and picked up his second game-winning goal of the weekend as the Jimmies took a 4-3 lead. Erichuk and Brenden Vulcano got the assists.
- Baranesky’s second of the game and third of the weekend gave the Jimmies an insurance goal at the 19:04 mark.
UP NEXT
- The Jimmies head to Minot State for a road matchup against a conference rival Friday, January 24 at Maysa Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 P.M.
