ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of North Dakota men’s tennis team opened up its week in the Sunshine State on a strong note, taking down FDU by a 5-2 score on Monday afternoon from Orlando, Fla.
The win is the seventh straight for the Fighting Hawks to improve to 10-3 on the season, going over a month without a defeat.
Doubles play proved to get the green and white off to a strong start once again, with the middle duo of Ethan Terry and Andrew Hayduke II opening it up with a 6-3 victory before Leandro Zgraggen and Ange-Kevin Koua clinched the 1-0 lead for the Hawks with a 6-4 win on the No. 1 court.
Koua kept the momentum rolling in singles play, quickly extending the lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 score from the No. 2 position while Terry pushed the advantage to 3-0 at the fifth spot with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph.
Zgraggen provided the clinch on the top court after bouncing back from a 6-0 loss in the opening set to win 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 and claim the match victory. Leo Galliano added the fifth-and-final point of the afternoon for NoDak at the No. 3 position by a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 score for the 5-2 win.
North Dakota will look to make it eight straight wins on Tuesday against Fairfield at 6 p.m.
