BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota State University President Dean Bresciani says some text messages he sent regarding now-rescinded media guidelines for covering Bison athletics were “not appropriate.”
Bresciani in a campus-wide email Monday also continued to maintain that he wasn’t consulted on the guidelines that were roundly criticized by journalists and on social media before NDSU scrapped them.
Text messages from Bresciani to Athletic Director Matt Larsen that were obtained by blogger Rob Port appeared to contradict Bresciani’s Aug. 2 statement that he was “profoundly disappointed” when he learned about the guidelines.
Bresciani in his email acknowledged initially supporting the guidelines but added he came to realize his understanding of them “was not accurate” and that “my initial support was misplaced.”
State Legislature Higher Education Committee Chairman Mark Sanford calls the controversy “unfortunate
