DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP Jan 14, 2013) – A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper is recovering in a hospital after a crash last week near Devils Lake.
Ramsey County Sheriff Steve Nelson says the crash happened on Jan. 8, 2013 on U.S. Highway 2. He says 31-year-old Trooper Brian Mehlhoff was apparently responding to a vehicle in the ditch when he turned in front of another vehicle and was struck on the driver’s side.
Nelson says Mehlhoff did not have his emergency lights on at the time and the crash and is being cited for an improper left turn. He doesn’t know where Mehlhoff is hospitalized but says the trooper’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Two people in the other vehicle were treated at a hospital and released.
