Jamestown  (CSi)  The Midway Township board has discussed land that the Jamestown Drag Racing Association wants for a drag strip, that would be North Dakota’s first quarter mile strip.

In a prepared statement the JDRA said, “We have worked out a deal with the current landowners to purchase an approximate 26 acre parcel, contingent on the zoning changing from agricultural to commercial. We look forward to the future which will include much more work but we are confident we have the crew willing to put in the effort.”

On a 3-0 vote the township agreed to  change the zoning.

Construction could start in 3 to 5 years depending on fundraising efforts.

The property is owned by Jane Trautman,

The planned location is west of the junction of the Highway 281 ByPass and County Road 40. Once built, it would be the state’s first 1/4 mile drag strip.
