Jimmie men’s soccer

JAMESTOWN  (uj.edu)  — Eleven minutes into Friday’s home match against Clarke (Ind.), the University of Jamestown men’s soccer team faced a 1-0 deficit.

Four straight goals by the Jimmies were too much for the Pride to overcome, and UJ took its first win of the season 4-1 at the UJ Turf Field Complex.

Jordan Perry took a pass from Brenden Dauphin and beat Jimmie goalkeeper Jake Askew (JR/Rotherham, England) to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute.

Jamestown trailed until the 41st minute when Ruben Zepeda (SO/Puebla, Mexico) beat Clarke keeper Michael Lubahn to level the game at 1.

The teams went into the halftime intermission tied 1-1. Shots were 7-3 in favor of UJ, as were shots on goal (4-2).

Zepeda made it 2-1 in the 70th minute, dribbling the ball downfield on a breakaway and put the ball past Lubahn for his second of the match.

Just over one minute later, a foul in the box gave UJ a penalty kick opportunity. Ben Prochniak (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) converted from the spot, extending the Jimmie lead to 3-1.

Aaron Pike (FR/Milton Keynes, England) put the final nail in the coffin in the 75th minute, assisted by Prochniak, and UJ pushed its lead to three goals.

Final shots were 17-5 Jamestown, as were shots on goal (9-2). Corner kicks were 5-2 in favor of the Jimmies.

Next up for UJ is a home match Sunday against St. John’s (Minn.) University at 5:30 p.m.
