JAMESTOWN (uj.edu) — St. John’s (Minn.) University forward Ben Becker accounted for all of his team’s goals in a 3-2 overtime win against the University of Jamestown Sunday at the UJ Turf Field Complex.
Becker completed the hat trick in the 96th minute as the Johnnies came back from a 2-1 deficit. SJU goalkeeper Nicholas French delivered a free kick just over the other side of the half line, giving Becker a perfect opportunity for a header to beat UJ’s Jake Askew (JR/Rotherham, England).
Trailing 1-0 in the 44th minute, Ruben Zepeda (SO/Puebla, Mexico) converted a penalty kick to tie the game before halftime.
Aaron Pike (FR/Milton Keynes, England) gave the Jimmies a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute, but Becker struck for his second in the 73rd minute.
Shots were 16-9 in favor of St. John’s, as were shots on goal (7-5). UJ had 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Askew recorded four saves for Jamestown (1-1-0), who travel to Billings, Mont., next weekend for a pair of games against College of Idaho and Rocky Mountain (Mont.)
