Midland defeats Jamestown 23-25,20-25,25-16,25-11,15-8
(uj.edu) The University of Jamestown volleyball team took the first two sets against Midland (Neb.) University Saturday, only to see the No. 7 Warriors stage an impressive comeback, taking the final three sets in a 3-2 victory.
Jamestown falls to 14-4 overall and 5-3 in GPAC play while the Warriors improve to 16-3 overall and 8-1 in the conference.
UJ won 25-23 and 25-20 before Midland’s offense started to click in set three. The Warriors came back with 25-16 and 25-11 victories of their own. A 9-1 lead in the fifth set proved to be too much of a deficit for the Jimmies to overcome.
Isabell Wedell had nine kills. The trio of Jayla Ritter (SO/Forest Lake, Minn.), Ellie Michaletz (SO/Aitkin, Minn.), and Kennedy Conzemius (SR/Breckenridge, Minn.) each added seven, while Corina Ruud (SO/Breezy Point, Minn.) and Kori Buchanan (SR/Colfax, Wis.) both had five.
Jackie Meiklejohn (FR/Dickey, N.D.) (17) and Miranda Lowman (JR/Mandan, N.D.) (16) both had double-figure assist totals. Julina Niemeier (SR/Jamestown, N.D.) racked up 25 digs while Sydney Ellingson (SO/Langdon, N.D.) added eight. Wedell and Corina Ruud finished with three total blocks.
Midland outhit the Jimmies .290-.080. UJ commited 33 attack errors to the Warriors’ 17. Digs were 73-59 in favor of Midland, as were service aces (9-4).
Next up for Jamestown is a non-conference match at home on Wednesday against Presentation (S.D.) College.
