UJ men in soccer win over Dakota Wesleyan

Thursday…

Jamestown 3 Dakota Wesleyan 0

MITCHELL, S.D. (uj.edu)  — After sliding through a six-game winless skid, the University of Jamestown men’s soccer team ran their winning streak to three on Thursday, defeating Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University 3-0.

Following a scoreless first half and a thirty-minute lightning delay, Jamestown struck first in the 56th minute. Ruben Zepeda (SO/Puebla, Mexico), assisted by Eric Fairtlough (SO/Varese, Italy), made it 1-0. The goal was Zepeda’s sixth of the season and third in his last three matches.

The lead doubled in the 76th minute as Lloyd van Wees (SO/Akersloot, Netherlands) opened his Jimmie goal account.

Another Jimmie notched his first goal as Diego Valle (FR/Yucaipa, Calif.) converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute for an insurance goal.

Jake Askew (JR/Rotherham, England) made four saves to earn the clean sheet.

Shots were 14-5 in favor of Jamestown, as were shots on goal (9-4).

The Jimmies, now 4-5-1 on the season and 3-2-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, have another GPAC match Saturday at Morningside (Iowa). Match time is 3:00 p.m.
