SEWARD, Neb. (uj.edu) — Kat Miska (SO/Pequot Lakes, MN) pitched the ninth individual no-hitter in program history, helping the University of Jamestown softball team to an 11-1 win over Concordia (Neb.) University in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader.
In the second game, the Bulldogs used a nine-run fourth to erase a 4-0 deficit and held on for a 12-7 win.
Jamestown is now 21-9 this season and 5-3 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Concordia improves to 14-4 overall and 3-1 in the GPAC.
The Jimmies will play in Fremont, Neb., against Midland University Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Game 1: Jimmies 11, Bulldogs 1 (6 innings)
While Miska held Concordia without a hit in game one, Jamestown pounded out 16 of their own in an 11-1 win.
Katie Reisdorfer (SO/Fresno, CA) was 3-for-4 including a pair of doubles and Mikayla Frost (JR/Melba, ID) also went 3-for-4 as UJ opened up a 6-0 lead after four innings.
Allie McCain (SR/Duvall, WA), Morgan Geiszler (SO/Horace, ND), and Meghan Ramage (SR/Grand Forks, ND) all recorded two hits. Mariah Wick (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) drove in a pair of runs with a single to key the Jimmies’ five-run sixth.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, three straight Concordia batters drew walks off of Miska to load the bases. An RBI ground out accounted for the Bulldogs’ only run.
Miska (10-3) struck out 10, the fourth time this season she has struck out 10 or more in a game. The no-hitter was the first for the Jimmies since Brittany Rheault and Toree Rensmon combined to no-hit Presentation (S.D.) College in the 2018 season opener. UJ has now had a no-hitter in each of the last five seasons (Hanna Dunnigan 2015 and 2017; Rheault 2016).
Game 2: Bulldogs 12, Jimmies 7
Jamestown followed up their 16-hit performance in game one with another 16 hits in game two, but a nine-run fourth inning by Concordia proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs won 12-7.
Sydney Prussia (SO/Detroit Lakes, MN), Katie Reisdorfer, and Miriah Yoder (SR/Devils Lake, ND) all drove in runs as part of a three-run third inning. Allie McCain singled home another run in the top of the fourth as UJ went ahead 4-0.
Concordia sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom half, nine of them scoring, to take a 9-4 lead.
Mariah Martinez (FR/Visalia, Calif.) made it 9-5 with a fifth-inning RBI single, and Meghan Ramage‘s two-run home run in the top of the sixth cut Concordia’s lead to 10-7. However, the Bulldogs answered with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a five-run game once again.
Mikayla Frost went 4-for-5 including a double and a triple to lead UJ. Morgan Geiszler was 3-for-4 and Ramage, Martinez, and Mariah Wick all had a pair of hits.
Katie Merchant (FR/South Haven, Minn.) (9-5) took the loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing six earned runs on seven hits. Miska came on in relief and allowed four earned runs on five hits over 1 2/3 innings.
