VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP Apr 24, 2013) – Federal investigators say pilot error was the probable cause of an airplane crash last fall that killed a veteran North Dakota pilot.
Bob Odegaard died Sept. 7, 2012 when he crashed his vintage Super Corsair plane while practicing for a Valley City air show.
The National Transportation Safety Board says Odegaard made an acrobatic maneuver at an altitude that didn’t allow him to fully recover the plane before it hit the ground.
The NTSB found no signs of a mechanical problem, though investigators said the extent of the damage didn’t allow for a complete exam of the flight control system.
The 66-year-old Odegaard was a longtime pilot and airplane rebuilder who owned an aerial spraying business.
