BISMARCK, N.D. uj.edu— The University of Jamestown men’s soccer team got a goal in the 35th minute from Luis Zepeda (FR/Puebla, Mexico), and the defense made it hold up against a 10-man University of Mary squad Friday evening.
The 1-0 victory gave the Jimmies (2-1) their second win over the Marauders in the last five days. UJ defeated UMary 2-1 Sunday in Jamestown.
Jamestown managed just two shots in the opening 30 minutes, but their patience paid off as Zepeda netted his first goal as a Jimmie. Jacob Grosvenor (JR/Christchurch, New Zealand) earned the assist.
On the other side of the ball, the Jimmie defense found itself having to ward off seven UMary shots in the opening half. Just two of the shots were on target, saved by UJ keeper Jake Askew (SR/Rotherham, England).
In the 56th minute Evandro Henrique was shown a straight red card, forcing the Marauders to play a man short for the remainder of the match.
Shots were 7-5 in favor of Jamestown in the second half. Both teams had four shots on goal.
The Jimmies return home to host Rocky Mountain (Mont.) Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Jimmie Turf Field.
