CSiNewsNOW – Jamestown, ND – Sunday August 4, 2012:

A water main break at the intersection of 4th Avenue & 2nd Street SW near Historic Franklin School caused the loss of water service for the SW neighborhood Sunday.

Water began bubbling up through the pavement Sunday morning.  The main was shutdown,  utilities notified to locate lines, and an excavator uncovered the faulty water main.

The cross-over fitting that joined the 8″ lines to the 6″ lines had failed, and a 6 x 8″ piece blew out.   A replacement part was found in Fargo, and driven to Jamestown.

At 6pm the part was being installed, the line to be re-pressurized, and all connections inspected.  Water service should resume by 8pm Sunday evening.  The intersection was blocked while work was being done and cars were routed to the 1st Street bridge to cross the river to the Klaus Park area.
