Jamestown 5 Williston State 1
(uj.edu)The University of Jamestown hockey team completed the weekend sweep of the Williston State College Tetons Saturday night in Williston.
The Jimmies topped WSC 5-1, peppering the Teton netminder with 72 shots in the contest. The offensive play for the Jimmies was led by the line of Jeremy McNeil, Cole McKechney, and Carter Johnson, who each found the net Saturday.
McKechney ignited the scoring early with a wrap around goal early in the first period. Johnson added another tally shortly after on a nice feed from McKechney. Williston State responded quickly in the second frame on the power play to make the score 2-1.
Jeremy McNeil made the score 3-1 off of an impressive display of hand-eye coordination from a Trevor Okino point shot. Later in the second, Jason Richter capitalized on the power play to make the score 4-1.
UJ scored once in the third period, courtesy of Garret Browning, who ripped a point shot to score his second goal in as many games.
Tyson Brouwer once again allowed just one goal and has allowed just six goals in the last seven games for the Jimmies.
With the win, the 11th-ranked Jimmies match their program high in wins with 23. UJ will return to action on February 13 at the John L. Wilson Arena against the visiting University of Colorado-Boulder Buffaloes.
