ABERDEEN, S.D. (uj.edu) — The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team took a 19-6 lead early on Monday and never looked back, defeating Presentation College 90-49 in non-conference action.
The Jimmies (15-9) let their reserves do most of the heavy lifting against the Saints, with 67 of the team’s 90 points coming from non-starters.
Mackensi Higlin (JR/Mandan, ND) led the way with 19 points, including 7-of-7 from the foul line. Grace Benz (SO/Steele, ND) added 14, and Emma Stoehr (JR/Woodbury, MN) was also in double figures with 12, making four three-pointers.
UJ led 19-12 after the first quarter, but the Saints scored the first four points of the second to cut the lead to three.
Jamestown responded with runs of 8-0 and 22-5 to make it a 20-point game with 3:31 before halftime.
In the third quarter, the Jimmies shot 50 percent from the floor (8-of-16) and 9-of-11 (82 percent) from the free-throw line to outscore PC 28-9. Jamestown scored 22 of the final 27 points in the quarter to lead by 39 entering the fourth.
Presentation turned the ball over 33 times in the game, leading to 33 points for the Jimmies.
Correy Hickman (JR/Morris, MN) had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds and five steals. Kayla Buchanan (SO/Wheatland, WY) chipped in with seven for Jamestown, who had 12 players score between three and 19 points.
Jada Campbell had a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds for Presentation (2-19). Aimee Campbell (11) and Sharmayne Hardy (10) also hit for double figures for the Saints.
Jamestown is back in action Wednesday, hosting Mount Marty (S.D.) College at 6 p.m.
