Jamestown 3 Midland 1

FREMONT, Neb. (uj.edu) — Tyler Chavez-Leech (JR/Red Deer, Alberta) scored twice to help lead the 11th-ranked University of Jamestown hockey team past the Midland University Warriors by a score of 3-1 Friday night at Sidner Ice Arena.

Chavez-Leech got the Jimmies on the board at 5:41 of the first period on the power play after he received a cross-ice pass courtesy of Allan Pruss (SR/Red Deer, Alberta). Aidan Potas (FR/Fargo, N.D.) had the second assist on the goal.

Chavez-Leech once again scored a few minutes later, finding the net after a Brandon Schaber (SR/Alder Flats, Alberta) point shot. Potas chipped in with his second assist of the night.

Midland responded at 8:36 of the first period to make the score 2-1.

The second period was scoreless and featured plenty of special teams action for both teams.

Twenty-two seconds into the third period, Jason Richter (SR/Cranbrook, British Columbia) scored on the power play on a setup from Cole McKechney (SR/Calgary, Alberta) and Trevor Okino (SR/Richmond, British Columbia) to give the Jimmies a 3-1 edge in the contest.

Tyson Brouwer (SR/Lethbridge, Alberta) was stellar once again, making 20 saves on 21 shots. The Jimmies outshot the Warriors 42-21.

Both teams will face-off once again tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Sidner Ice Arena.

FREMONT, Neb.  (uj.edu) — The University of Jamestown hockey team added to its already impressive season with a 3-1 victory over the Midland University Warriors Saturday night to conclude the weekend sweep of the Warriors. Saturday’s win was the 27th win of the season for the 11th-ranked Jimmies.

Cayle Bell (SR/Fort St. John, British Columbia) snapped a shot home at 4:54 of the first period with assists to Allan Pruss (SR/Red Deer, Alberta) and Michael Pruss (SR/Red Deer, Alberta) to begin the scoring.

In the second frame of action, Jeremy McNeil (SR/Calgary, Alberta) capitalized on a backdoor pass from Cole McKechney (SR/Calgary, Alberta) with Trevor Okino (SR/Richmond, British Columbia) adding a helper on the goal.

Midland picked up a goal late in the second period to make the game 2-1 after two periods.

McKechney sealed the deal with a goal at 12:11 of the third period with help from McNeil and Okino.

Tyson Brouwer (SR/Lethbridge, Alberta) stopped 22 of 23 shots en route to his 22nd win of the season and 70th career win as a Jimmie. McKechney became the second Jimmie to reach 100 career points after recording two points on the night.

The Jimmies improve to 27-7 on the season and look ahead to the ND Challenge Series and Senior Night against Minot State on March 5th at the John L. Wilson Arena.
