PARKVILLE, Mo. (uj.edu)— The University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team had its four-match winning streak snapped Friday night, losing 3-1 to No. 3 Park (Mo.) University. Set scores were 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 18-25.

In the first set, Jamestown led 19-12 and 21-14 before Park mounted a mini-comeback. At 24-18, Park rattled off five straight points to make it 24-23, but a service error by the Pirates gave UJ the win.

Park took leads of 10-4 and 12-6 in the second set, never letting the Jimmies get any closer than four points in winning 25-20.

Down 8-6 in set three, the Pirates rallied for six straight points to go ahead 12-8 and would later lead 16-11.UJ got within two points at 22-20 and 24-22 before Park got the set point.

Momentum stayed with Park in the fourth set as the home team took leads of 12-6 and and 17-10, eventually winning by the same seven points, 25-18.

Clark Steele (JR/Lake Forest, Calif.) was the main offensive weapon for Jamestown, finishing with a season-high 27 kills and a hitting percentage of .478. Nick Vanags (FR/San Diego, Calif.) and Derek Owens (FR/Andover, Minn.) had seven kills apiece, while Caylor Cox (FR/Helena, Mont.) added six and Austin Jacob (FR/Houston, Texas) five.

Derek Correa (FR/Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) passed out a season-best 47 assists, his sixth 40-plus assist match out of eight this season. Braden Neumann (JR/Costa Mesa, Calif.) racked up nine digs while Steele totalled seven blocks. Owens added five block assists.

Jamestown (6-2 overall, 1-1 American Midwest/Great Plains/Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) are back in action at 3 p.m. Saturday against Ottawa (Kan.)
