Men’s Volleyball
OTTAWA, Kan. (uj.edu) — The University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team bounced back from a four-set loss at No. 3 Park (Mo.) on Friday with a sweep of Ottawa University Saturday afternoon.
Jamestown (7-2 overall, 2-1 American Midwest/Great Plains/Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) will have three home matches to open the month of March, hosting Morningside (Iowa) on Tuesday, Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Thursday, and Dordt (Iowa) on Friday.
The Jimmies outhit the Braves .395-.148 Saturday, making just 10 attack errors to Ottawa’s 18. UJ had the edge in kills (42-30), service aces (5-3), digs (28-24), and total blocks (7-5).
Clark Steele (JR/Lake Forest, Calif.) (14) and Caylor Cox (FR/Helena, Mont.) (13) combined for 27 of UJ’s 42 kills. Nick Vanags (FR/San Diego, Calif.) finished with nine kills while Austin Jacob (FR/Houston, Texas) and Derek Owens (FR/Andover, Minn.) added three kills each. Cox hit .545 for the match while Steele hit .480.
Derek Correa (FR/Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) had 34 assists and Braden Neumann (JR/Costa Mesa, Calif.) chipped in with six. Neumann led the defense with 10 digs followed by Correa with seven.
Jacob had three total blocks, including two solo, while Owens and Cox each had a solo block and assist.
