TOPEKA, Kan.   (uj.edu)— For the second weekend in a row, the University of Jamestown baseball team won with a bases-loaded walk, defeating Aquinas (Mich.) 1-0 to salvage a split of Saturday’s doubleheader.

The rally in the bottom of the seventh began with one out as Kendall Yackley (SO/Lynnwood, WA) reached on a walk. After Yackley stole second, Grant Okawa (SR/Mississauga, ON) was intentionally walked. Nick Wrigg (SR/Helena, MT) bunted and reached on a base hit to load the bases. Luke Shekeryk (JR/Seattle, WA) worked a walk to force home Yackley and give the Jimmies the win.

Andy Reed (SR/Woodinville, WA) (2-0) struck out three in 1 1/3 innings for the win. Kensaku Akiya (SR/Kawasaki, Japan) scattered four hits over the first 5 2/3 innings and struck out four but did not figure in the decision.

Yackley had two of UJ’s five hits. Shekeryk and Tayler Cullen (JR/Santa Rosa, Calif.) also had hits.

In Saturday’s first game, Aquinas used a nine-run fifth on the way to a 12-2 win.

Brian Rice (JR/Vancouver, WA) singled home Ben Pedigo (JR/Olympia, WA) in the fifth inning for UJ’s first run, and Yackley singled in Matt Meraz (SR/Aurora, CO) for run number two.

Meraz, Pedigo, Yackley, and Rice had the Jimmies’ hits.

Jamestown (9-3) and Aquinas (3-3) will meet again Sunday in Topeka for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
