ND Challenge Series
At Minot State
Minot State 4 Jamestown 1
Minot (uj.edu) The University of Jamestown hockey team split the ND Challenge Series with the Minot State University Beavers after a 4-1 loss in Minot Friday night. The loss gives the No. 12-ranked Jimmies a 28-8 record on the year after tonight’s final regular season contest.
The Jimmies found themselves down 1-0 after the Beavers opened up the scoring at 3:56 of the first period. Fifty-five seconds later, Allan Pruss (SR/Red Deer, Alberta) responded after he buried his own rebound which started from a passing play by Cayle Bell (SR/Fort St. John, British Columbia) and Michael Pruss (SR/Red Deer, Alberta). It was Pruss’ 11th goal and team leading 41st point of the season.
The second frame of action featured physical play from both sides and a five-minute major penalty to the Jimmies drained any momentum the Jimmies had. Minot State capitalized twice on the man advantage and took a 3-1 lead into the third period.
UJ could not get anything past the Beavers defence and goaltending in the third and gave up an empty net goal which made the score 4-1 for the Beavers. Tyson Brouwer (SR/Lethbridge, Alberta) made 32 saves between the pipes for the Jimmies.
The Jimmies were outshot 35-30 in the contest. In nine meetings with Minot this season, UJ holds a record of 6-3. These same two teams will play for a tenth and final time at the ACHA National Championships in Frisco, Texas on Saturday, March 21.
