OSKALOOSA, Iowa– (uj.edu) An 83rd minute goal by Kirstyn Aldridge (SR/Williamsburg, Va.) lifted the University of Jamestown women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over William Penn University Sunday afternoon.
For the second time in as many games, the Jimmies netted the game-winner inside of seven minutes to play.
Aldridge took a pass from Kamryn Fiscus (SO/Yakima, Wash.) and beat Statesman goalkeeper Katja Bierman for her second goal of the season.
It was just the second shot on target for UJ in the second half. Fiscus had an attempt saved by Bierman in the 64th minute.
Jamestown had a couple of key scoring chances in the opening half. Katie Bakker (SO/St. Michael, Minn.) was denied by Bierman in the 33rd minute, and Claire Struble (JR/Murrieta, Calif.)’s rebound shot caromed off the crossbar, keeping the score 0-0.
Alex Nowka (SO/Anchorage, Alaska) turned away three shots in the first 45 minutes, then was called upon to make two more saves in the second half in notching her third career clean sheet.
Shots were 13-10 in favor of the Jimmies, as were shots on goal (7-5).
Jamestown’s win spoiled the head coaching debut of WPU’s Jack Hartley, who spent the last four seasons on Nick Becker‘s coaching staff following his playing career at UJ.
UJ (2-0-0) will host Midland (Neb.) on September 17 at 5 p.m.
