MAYVILLE, N.D.— The Mayville State Universty Comets scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning and held off the University of Jamestown 7-5 Sunday afternoon at Scott Berry Field.

Jamestown, now 1-3 this season, travels to Valley City State on Tuesday to play the Vikings at 6:30 p.m.

The Jimmies scored twice in their first at bat via a Kendall Yackley (SO/Lynnwood, WA) single and Matt Meraz (SR/Aurora, CO) sacrifice fly.

Mayville State plated five runs in the bottom of the second, chasing Jimmie starter Cole Christensen (SO/Walnut Creek, CA) to take a 5-2 lead.

Chase Hacker (SR/Millcreek, WA)’s fourth-inning RBI single made it 5-3, then UJ tied the game in the top of the fifth on a double steal and a Comet throwing error.

The Comets retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth and added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to round out the scoring.

Hacker finished 2-for-3 at the plate for UJ. Brian Rice (JR/Vancouver, WA), Grant Okawa (SR/Mississauga, ON), and Jared Bentley (SR/Washougal, WA) also had hits.
