(UJ) The road team emerged victorious in both of this weekend’s games between the University of Jamestown and Minot State University.
Friday the Jimmies came away with a 6-5 victory in Minot, while the Beavers responded with a 3-2 win in Jamestown Saturday.
In the series opener, UJ led 3-1 after the first period on goals by Tyler Chavez-Leech (SR/Red Deer, Alberta), Logan Berggren (FR/Cypress, Calif.), and Quin Garrison (SO/Prince George, British Columbia). Marquez Ginger (FR/Augusta, Ga.), Berggren, Chavez-Leech, Carter Johnson (JR/Meeteetse, Wyo.), and Jordon Kromm (FR/Calgary, Alberta) all had assists in the period.
Garrison tallied a second goal, assisted by Johnson, to open the second period, making it 4-1 Jimmies. Minot State answered just under three minutes later, cutting the lead to 4-2.
Minot State got the first goal of the third period, making it a one-goal game. Jed Butler (FR/Mazama, Wash.) (from Wade Auger (JR/Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan)) and Jason Richter (SR/Kimberley, British Columbia) (from Reid Wilson (FR/Castlegar, British Columbia)) would score 18 seconds apart to put Jamestown ahead 6-3.
The Beavers made things interesting with a pair of goals in the final 3:39 but UJ held on for the win.
Tyson Brouwer (SR/Lethbridge, Alberta) had 24 saves in goal. The Jimmies outshot the Beavers 34-29.
Minot State needed just 2:21 to take an early lead Saturday in Jamestown. The 1-0 lead would hold until the 2:19 mark of the third, when Hunter Maximnuk (FR/Heritage Point, Alberta) took a Wade Auger pass and tied the game.
The Beavers retook the lead at the 14:21 mark of the third, but Andrew Clark (FR/Spokane, Wash.) tied the game at 18:21 on a pass from Marquez Ginger.
With 26 seconds left, Minot State would find the eventual game-winner, scoring a four-on-four even strength goal.
Shots were 39-26 in favor of the Beavers. Brouwer had 36 saves in defeat.
The Jimmies are back in action Sunday, hosting the University of Mary Marauders at 6 p.m.
