Update Friday Afternoon….The water restriction imposed on Valley City water users was lifted Friday afternoon, June 21, 2013. The restriction was imposed due to the Main Sewer Lift Station being overwhelmed by the heavy rain that occurred in Valley City.

Previously reported: Friday morning… The Valley City Police Department said city officials are still asking residents to use as little water as possible, as the Main Sewer Lift Station is still working at capacity from rain water leading to the pumps being overwhelmend.
Valley City,ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jun 21, 2013) – Torrential rain in a short period of time Thursday evening caused significant flood damage in Valley City and led to infrastructure property damage and travel problems.
Downtown Valley City Recorded 4.65 inches of rain last evening.
Reports say 12-17 inches of water led to submerged streets in some areas of town, and no travel was allowed in the city.
Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson says law enforcement received multiple reports of basement flooding and a report of a caved-in basement.
The Valley City Master sewer lift station was overwhelmed due to the high water, and residents were asked not to use water.
A State of Emergency was declared, and according to Mayor Bob Werkhoven that was declared in order for Valley City to be eligible for state and federal assistance.

A STATE OF EMERGENCY HAS BEEN DECLARED IN VALLEY CITY.
NO TRAVEL IN THE CITY ON THURSDAY NIGHT.
THE MASTER SEWER LIFT STATION WAS BEING OVERWHELMED AS OF LATE THURSDAY EVENING….NO WATER USAGE IS BEING ALLOWED.
REPORTS OF STREET FLOODING WITH 12 TO 17 INCHES REPORTED AT THE HEIGHT OF THE FLOODING, IN SOME AREAS OF TOWN.
A NUMBER OF ROADS IN THE CITY AND COUNTY WERE SUMERGED THURSDAY EVENING.
POLICE CHIEF FRED THOMPSON SAYS LAW ENFORCEMENT RECEIVED MULTIPLE REPORTS OF BASEMENT FLOODING, AND A REPORT OF A CAVED IN BASEMENT.
EXTRA POLICE OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO ASSIST.
ACCORDING TO MAYOR ROBERT WERKHOVEN THE STATE OF EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR STATE/FEDERAL ASSISTANCE.
At 8:35pm the City of Valley City issued via phone a NO TRAVEL in Valley City due to street flooding. City crews are addressing the issue. Residents are asked to observe the NO TRAVEL until such time that the flooding problems have passed.
