GPAC Championship
Concordia University (NE) 2 Jamestown 1

SEWARD, Neb.  (UJ)  — The University of Jamestown women’s soccer had their postseason run come to an end Friday night, losing 2-1 to Concordia University in the GPAC final.

The Jimmies, 13-8 on the season, will find out Monday if they receive an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship.

UJ outshot the Bulldogs 6-2 in the first half, but neither team was able to find a goal.

Cheyenne Smith broke the tie in the 51st minute on a pass from Lina Kirst.

Concordia doubled their lead in the 67th on a goal by Bethany Fuchs, putting the Jimmies in a two-goal deficit.

Jamestown had an apparent goal in the 61st waved off due to being offsides. Despite the near miss, UJ kept up the steady offensive pressure, testing the Bulldog defense.

Kamryn Fiscus (SO/Yakima, Wash.) had a penalty kick attempt denied in the 70th minute, but just under two minutes later the Jimmies got on the scoreboard. Autumn Opperud (JR/Huntington Beach, Calif.) continued her run of good form, slotting home a goal in the 72nd minute to make it 2-1.

UJ had five shot attempts in the final 15 minutes but were unable to find the equalizer.

Shots were 19-6 in favor of Jamestown, as were shots on goal (15-5). Alex Nowka (SO/Anchorage, Alaska) had three saves in goal.
