COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (UJ) — The University of Jamestown women’s golf team is in second place after the third round of the GPAC Championship Friday at Bent Tree Golf Course.
The Jimmies shot a 336 on Friday, putting them at a three-round total of 1051. Morningside (Iowa) College leads the 12-team field with a three-round score of 934. Concordia (Neb.) is three shots back of Jamestown in third, while Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) is eight shots back of UJ in fourth place.
Paige Argent (SR/Minot, N.D.), at 33-over 251 (85-84-82) is in ninth place and Izzy Marchino (JR/Highlands Ranch, Colo.) is tenth at 36-over 254 (90-81-83).
Faith Justesen (FR/Hawley, Minn.) is tied for 23rd at 56-over 274 (95-94-85), and Jayme Carlson (SO/Hartford, S.D.) is 25th at 60-over 278 (99-93-86). Teagan Fee (SO/Havre, Mont.) carded an 88 in her first round of the tournament.
Sam Knight of Morningside is the individual leader at 10-over 228 (76-79-73), followed by teammates Maria Zorrilla at 13-over 231 (79-75-77) and Laia Badosa at 16-over 234 (77-79-78).
The tournament concludes Saturday with golfers starting at holes 1 and 10 at 10 a.m. The winning team receives an automatic berth in the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla., May 25-28. The GPAC medalist, if not on the qualifying team, also qualifies for nationals.
