BELLEVUE, NEB. (VCSU) – The Valley City State softball team dropped Friday’s NSAA Postseason game 3-0 as Dickinson State scored all of its runs with two outs in the seventh inning.
It is just the sixth loss of the season for VCSU who is now 34-6 on the season. The Vikings end a 17-game win streak with Friday’s loss. Dickinson State moves to 33-13 on the season.
Blue Hawk pitcher Jaya Allen had a no-hitter going through four innings but a Riley Perryman single broke it up in the fifth. Joelle Aiello also had a single in the game, but that would be all the Vikings could do as Allen struck out 11 batters.
Emily Smith battled back, giving up just two hits through six innings. The Blue Hawks found a rally in the top of the seventh, opening with a Dallis Mitchell double. The Vikings continued to fight, retiring the next two batters with a line out and a strikeout. Olivia Hanke then recorded an RBI double and Katelyn Kubitschek added an RBI single to take the 3-0 victory.
Smith allowed six hits, walked one batter and struck out nine.
UP NEXT: Valley City State will play No. 7 Waldorf in a loser’s out game Saturday at 10 a.m. Saturday’s games have been moved up due to rain in the forecast. If the Vikings win, they will play Dickinson State right away in the Championship game. VCSU would have to defeat the Blue Hawks twice to earn the NSAA Tournament Championship title.
