Box Score

CRETE, Neb.  (UJ) — The University of Jamestown baseball team fell victim to a two-run rally in the top of the sixth against Doane University, losing 3-1 in the championship game of the Doane bracket Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown finishes the season with a record of 30-23, reaching the 30-win mark for the 11th straight season, excluding the 2020 season which was shortened to 23 games.

The Tigers scored in the top of the first on a throwing error by the Jimmies, but UJ tied the game in the bottom of the third as they took advantage of a Doane error. Chase Hacker (SR/Millcreek, WA) walked to lead off the inning and stole second base. Brian Rice (JR/Vancouver, WA)’s sacrifice bunt moved Hacker to third, and Grant Okawa (SR/Mississauga, ON) hit a ball that was misplayed by the shortstop, allowing Hacker to cross the plate.

It remained a 1-1 game until the top of the sixth, when the Tigers pushed two runs across against Jimmie starter Kendall Yackley (SO/Lynnwood, WA). Aaron Mason reached on a one-out single, then moved to second on a two-out single by Tucker Catlett. Brett Meyer singled and took second on a throwing error, as Mason and courtesy runner Tanner Black scored.

UJ managed just two hits over the five final innings against Doane starter Jordan Wisner and Kyler Beekman. Wisner gave up two hits over seven innings, walking three and striking out six before Beekman threw the final two innings to record the save.

Yackley allowed three runs, one of them earned, over 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out one. Cameron Jenkins (JR/West Richland, WA) pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief of Yackley, striking out five and walking one while giving up one hit.

Lincoln Trujillo (SR/Cheyenne, WY), Brice Foster (SR/Lynnwood, WA), and Mike Asahara (SO/Spanaway, Wash.) had the hits for Jamestown.
