Phyllis Ann Lemer, 83, passed away July 20 at her home surrounded by her family while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  The funeral mass for Phyllis will be celebrated Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 10:30 AM in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Valley City.  Visitation will be held in the church on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, at 7:00, the Rosary will be prayed followed by a prayer service.  She will be laid to rest in St. Catherine Cemetery.

Phyllis Ann Appelt, daughter of Edward and Anna (Buechle) Appelt, was born February 10, 1938 near Martin, ND where she was raised on the farm and attended country school.  She then attended Martin High School and graduated in 1956.  In 1957, she moved to Harvey, ND and worked at the hospital, Red Owl and Super Valu.

On April 20, 1959, she married the love of her life, Eugene Lemer.  They lived in Minot, ND for two years then moved to a farm near Valley City, ND and into Valley City in 1968.  In 1975, she started working for Sheyenne Valley Special Education and Valley City Public Schools until her retirement in 1998.

She volunteered at the Nearly Nu Store and helped at the church.

Phyllis enjoyed gardening, baking, embroidering, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene; 4 daughters, Laurie (Mike) Harshman of Grand Forks, ND, Paulette (Carlos) Gonzalez of Colorado Springs, CO, Mary Jo Randle of Hazen, ND, and Gail (Jeff) Nelson of Valley City; and son, Loren (Donna) Lemer of Valley City.  She is also survived by a brother, Gerald Appelt of Minot, ND; 8 grandsons; a granddaughter; 3 great granddaughters; 2 great grandsons; and 3 step great grandsons.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother; sister, Marion Thomssen; brother, Lawrece Appelt; son-in-law, Carlos Conzalez; and a grandson, Karson Lemer.
