BOURBONNAIS, Ill.  (UJ)– Two second-half goals proved to be the difference for the University of Jamestown women’s soccer team in a 3-1 win over Olivet Nazarene University Saturday evening.

BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED: In the 10th minute, Eve Hoppe (SO/Temecula, Calif.) dribbled through the Tiger defense and delivered an excellent through ball to Kamryn Fiscus (JR/Yakima, Wash.), who maneuvered towards the near pole, drawing ONU keeper Samantha Tuuk out of position and leaving all sorts of real estate on the far pole. Fiscus deftly put the ball into the space vacated by Tuuk for her second goal of the season and a 1-0 Jimmie lead.

ONU drew level in short order, as Alaina Bahr intercepeted a pass by Jimmie keeper Alex Nowka (JR/Anchorage, Alaska) in the 12th minute, finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Tuuk saved shots by Hoppe in the 41st minute and Autumn Opperud (SR/Huntington Beach, Calif.) in the 45th minute to keep the score 1-1 as the teams headed to the break.

Jamestown outshot the Tigers 6-4 and had a 3-2 advantage in shots on target in the first half.

Set pieces were a strong part of the Jimmie arsenal in 2020, and a well-executed corner kick in the 61st minute led to the go-ahead goal. Briana Perry (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.)’s cross found a streaking Karlie Hintze (JR/Herald, Calif.), who headed the ball past Tuuk to make it 2-1 Jamestown.

While UJ pressed forward for a game-clinching score, the Jimmie defense only called upon Nowka to stop an Annabel Murley shot in the 66th, and a header by Emily Greene went wide in the 82nd.

In the 84th minute, Jamestown found its third goal. Cassandra Diaz (JR/Montebello, Calif.)’s initial shot was saved by Tuuk, but the rebound found Diaz in a favorable position, and she scored for the second time in two games and a 3-1 lead.

The Jimmies had an 18-10 edge in overall shots as well a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Nowka made four saves while Tuuk finished with six.

GAME NOTES:
Diaz had three shots on goal while six other Jimmies had one each…Saturday’s match with ONU was the first in program history…UJ had 18 shots for the second straight match…Jimmie head coach Nick Becker is now two wins away from 100 in his career.
