Jamestown  (UJ) The second-ranked University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team won their 14th straight match Saturday afternoon, defeating Briar Cliff (Iowa) University 25-18, 25-13, 25-16 at Harold Newman Arena.

Jamestown (14-0, 4-0 GPAC) hosts No. 9 Northwestern (Iowa) College Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

UJ trailed just once in the first set against Briar Cliff (12-11), but a kill by Aleah Zieske (FR/Spicer, Minn.) and three straight Charger attack errors made it 15-12. BCU came back to tie at 16, only to have Corina Huff (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) post back-to-back kills for the Jimmies to go ahead 18-16. Jamestown finished by scoing five of the final six points of the set, capped off by Jayla Ritter (JR/Forest Lake, Minn.)’s third kill in the opener.

The Jimmies never trailed in set two, although Briar Cliff got as close as 7-6. Huff and Kadyn Mehring (SO/Carrington, N.D.) kills made it 9-6, then three straight attack errors gave UJ at 12-6 lead. UJ outhit BCU .393 to .000 to take a 2-0 match lead.

Jamestown closed out the match by holding the Chargers to a .000 hitting percentage and only five kills in 34 attempts. UJ held a slim 9-7 lead but a 12-2 run put the set out of reach.

Kalli Hegerle (JR/West Fargo, N.D.) had a team-high 10 kills while Ritter had nine, and the duo of ZIeske and Mehring had eight each. Ritter hit .529 with no errors and Huff finished at .500 with just one error.

Jackie Meiklejohn (JR/Dickey, N.D.) had 19 assists and Megan Gaffaney (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) 18 as the Jimmies finished with a .310 hitting percentage.

Ellie Holen (FR/LaMoure, N.D.) posted 23 digs and Hannah Schiele (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) was also in double figures with 11.
