Fergus Falls, Mn (UJ)   The UJ men’s and women’s golf teams are in first place after the opening round of the Spartan Invitational at Pebble Lake Golf Course.

For the men, the Orange team of Jackson Worner (JR/West Fargo, N.D.), Tate Olson (SR/Cook, Minn.), Tomas Garcia (FR/Vigo, Spain), Gehrig Geiss (FR/Glen Ullin, N.D.), and Max Noffsinger (FR/Ft. Collins, Colo.) combined for a total score of 303, two shots ahead of the Jamestown Black team of Carter Wells (JR/Huron, S.D.), Carter Janssen (JR/Rapid City, S.D.), Treyton Forsman (SR/Lewiston, Idaho), Benjamin Schaefer (SO/New Rockford, N.D.), and Bridger Hansen (FR/Wahpeton, N.D.) at 305.

Worner shot a 72 to lead after round one. Olson, Wells, and Janssen each shot 75, while Garcia and Forsman shot 77. Schaefer finished with a 78, Geiss a 79, Noffsinger 81, and Hansen 89.

Individually, Jed Truax (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) finished with an 84, Jake Huculak (SO/Jasper, Alberta) 86, and Adam Nedens (JR/Billings, Mont.) 87,

The Jamestown Orange women’s team of Jayme Carlson (JR/Hartford, S.D.), Faith Justesen (SO/Hawley, Minn.), Izzy Marchino (SR/Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Kyra Vogel (FR/Jamestown, N.D.), and Haley Malone (JR/Moorhead, Minn.) combined for a 342 to lead the team race, 12 shots ahead of Minnesota-Morris. The Jamestown Black team of Olivia Wallace (SR/Park Rapids, Minn.), Coley Olson (SO/Cook, Minn.), Lauryn Hibl (FR/Jamestown, N.D.), Ema Lee (SO/Casselton, N.D.), and Abby Gremaux (SR/Lewistown, Mont.) combined for a 383 and are in fourth place.

Carlson had the best Jimmie opening round with an 84. Justesen shot an 85, followed by Marchino at 86 and Vogel at 87. Wallace finished at 91, Malone 92, Olson 95, Hibl 98, Lee 99, and Gremaux 101.

The tournament concludes Monday with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
