FERGUS FALLS, Minn.– Jackson Worner (JR/West Fargo, N.D.) won medalist honors and the University of Jamestown men’s golf team won the team title at the Spartan Invitational, which concluded Monday at Pebble Lake Golf Course.
Worner, leading the Orange team, finished at 4-over 148 (72-76), two shots ahead of Tate Olson (SR/Cook, Minn.) at 6-over 150 (75-75). Tomas Garcia (FR/Vigo, Spain) tied for 6th at 13-over 157 (77-80), Gehrig Geiss (FR/Glen Ullin, N.D.) was 10th at 14-over 158 (79-79), and Max Noffsinger (FR/Ft. Collins, Colo.) was tied for 12th at 16-over 160 (81-79).
The Orange team defeated the Jimmie Black team in a playoff as both Orange (303-309) and Black (305-307) finished at 612. Benjamin Schaefer (SO/New Rockford, N.D.) was the top finisher for the Black at 7-over 151 (78-73), taking third. Treyton Forsman (SR/Lewiston, Idaho) was fifth at 11-over 155 (77-78), while Carter Janssen (JR/Rapid City, S.D.) (75-82) and Carter Wells (JR/Huron, S.D.) (75-82) tied for sixth at 13-over 157. Bridger Hansen (FR/Wahpeton, N.D.) tied for 15th at 19-over 163 (89-74).
Playing individually, Jake Huculak (SO/Jasper, Alberta) was 14th at 18-over 162 (86-76), Adam Nedens (JR/Billings, Mont.) tied for 23rd at 26-over 170 (87-83), and Jed Truax (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) was tied for 25th at 28-over 172 (84-88).
Next up for the Jimmies is the GPAC Fall Championship at Indian Creek Golf Course in Elkhorn, Neb., September 27-28.
Women
FERGUS FALLS, Minn.– Led by four top-10 finishes, the University of Jamestown women’s golf team won the team title at the Spartan Invite, which concluded Monday at Pebble Lake Golf Course.
The Jamestown Orange team finished with a two-round score of 686 (342-344), 18 shots better than runner-up Minnesota-Morris.
Izzy Marchino (SR/Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was the top placer for UJ, coming in third at 22-over 166 (86-80). Jayme Carlson (JR/Hartford, S.D.) was fifth at 25-over 169 (84-85), Kyra Vogel (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) seventh at 31-over 175 (87-88), Faith Justesen (SO/Hawley, Minn.) ninth at 34-over 178 (85-93), and Haley Malone (JR/Moorhead, Minn.) 12th at 39-over 183 (92-91).
The Jamestown Black team was fourth overall with a two-round score of 765 (383-382).
Olivia Wallace (SR/Park Rapids, Minn.) led the way in 13th place at 40-over 184 (91-93), Coley Olson (SO/Cook, Minn.) was 15th at 45-over 189 (95-94), Abby Gremaux (SR/Lewistown, Mont.) 17th at 51-over 195 (101-94), Ema Lee (SO/Casselton, N.D.) tied for 19th at 56-over 200 (99-101), and Lauryn Hibl (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) tied for 21st at 57-over 201 (98-103).
Next up for the Jimmies is the University of Mary Invite at Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck, N.D., on September 26-27.
