UJ Women, Jamestown defeats Presentation College 3 – 0 (25 – 12 ,25 – 17, 25 – 13)
Jamestown (UJ) The second-ranked University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team swept Presentation (S.D.) College Tuesday night at Harold Newman Arena, winning 25-17, 25-11, 25-17 in non-conference action.
Jamestown, now 17-0 on the season, returns to GPAC action Friday at Dordt (Iowa) University.
The Jimmies opened up with a 4-0 lead but the Saints pulled ahead 8-7. A kill by Kalli Hegerle (JR/West Fargo, N.D.) sparked a 4-0 run and UJ would never trail again. After Presentation closed within 14-13, Megan Gaffaney (JR/Jamestown, N.D.)’s dump led off six straight kills by Jamestown and a 20-13 lead. Leading 23-17, Darienne Johnson (FR/Eastpointe, Mich.)’s kill and Hannah Schiele (JR/Jamestown, N.D.)’s service ace closed out the set.
UJ took a 15-4 lead in set two with the help of four aces, two from Schiele and one each from Gaffaney and Jackie Meiklejohn (JR/Dickey, N.D.). The Jimmies hit .320 in the set, with just three errors on 32 attempts.
Presentation scored consecutive points just once in set three, and a 7-2 run midway through the set broke things open for Jamestown. Despite making six errors to the Saints’ four, UJ outhit PC .303 to .143 and put 16 balls to the floor.
Hegerle and Jayla Ritter (JR/Forest Lake, Minn.) both had 11 kills while Kadyn Mehring (SO/Carrington, N.D.) and Aleah Zieske (FR/Spicer, Minn.) each had six. Ritter hit a team-high .588 with only one error on 17 attempts.
Meiklejohn had a double-double of 19 assists and 15 digs. Ellie Holen (FR/LaMoure, N.D.) added 12 digs, and Schiele added four aces and nine digs.
