NDHPpatchValley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a one vehicle accident Friday (Aug 2, 2013) about 9:25 a.m., on Highway 46, near Little Yellowstone Park about 20 miles south of Valley City.

Captain Brian Niewind reports a 1990 Kenworth, towing a belly-dump trailer, operated by 49 year old Patrick McMahon, of Lisbon was westbound on Hwy. 46 entering the Sheyenne River Valley near Little Yellowstone Park, approximately 20 miles south of Valley City.

The unit was westbound on the roadway on the east side of the river valley, traveling on a sharp downward grade. It was traveling at an unknown rate of speed when McMahon made a hard brake application and lost control, entering the north ditch of Hwy. 46, and then vaulted over an approach and came to rest in the north ditch on its wheels.

McMahon remained in the cab of the truck during the crash. The driver was transported to Mercy Hospital in Valley City with non-life threatening injuries.

The Kenworth was towing an empty, 1997 homemade gravel trailer.

The damage estimate was $15,000.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the  Barnes County Ambulance Service, Barnes County Sheriff’s Office and the Ft. Ransom Fire Department.
