VCcommValley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Valley City Commission met in Regular Session Monday evening (Aug 5, 2013) at City Hall.  All members were present.

Approval of Consent Agenda items included:

Monthly Reports from the Fire Chief, Building Inspector, Auditor, Municipal Judge and Public Works Accountant.

Monthly Bills for the City and Public Works in the Amount of $ 1,217,776.64

Game of Chance Raffle Permit for Ducks Unlimited.

A temporary Class E Beer License for Mi Pueblito (Another Time Mexican Restaurant) through December 31, 2013.

Blocking off Street for neighborhood party on August 6, from 6 – 8 pm, on the 400 block and 6th Avenue NE.

 

Public Forum: No one spoke

 

A Public Hearing was held for the Replat for VanBruggen Subdivision located in the NE ¼ Sec 29, Twsp 140 N Range 58, W of the Fifth Principal Meridian, Valley City, Barnes County.

A Public Hearing was held for the Replat of Block 3, Fairhill Properties situated in the NE ¼ of Sec 28, Twsp 140 N Range 58, W of the Fifth Principal Meridian, Valley City, Barnes County.

 

Ordinances

City Commissioners approved the First Reading of an Ordinance N approving the replat of VanBruggen Subdivision located in the NE ¼ Sec 29, Twsp 140 N Range 58, W of the Fifth Principal Meridian, Valley City, Barnes County.

Approved the First Reading of an Ordinance approving Replat of Block 3, Fairhill Properties situated in the NE ¼ of Sec 28, Twsp 140 N Range 58, W of the Fifth Principal Meridian, Valley City, Barnes County.

 

New Business

City Commissioners approved the NDDOT TAP funds for the 9th Street NE Shared Use Path for FY 2014.

The Commission approved a 5 year Municipal Waste Transfer quote from Ken’s Sanitation beginning September 1, 2013 through August 31, 2018.

Approved a carpet quote from Valley Paint and Glass in the amount of $12,091.00 for Public Works offices.  The carpet received damage in the June 2oth flash flood, and the carpet was in need of replacement due to wear.

Approved a new member, Ken Reid, to the Zoning Board of Adjustments for a 3 year term.

 

City Administrator Report:

With an AMI automated meter system update…a 10 month plan was outlined to install the load control equipment, with assistance from Cooper Power, with the delivery schedule, and found additional meters without cost to the city. Four gateways will be installed.

Completion is expected in early 2014.

With the buyout program for 2013, the city met with Deb Kantrud of the South Central Regional Council and discussed the previous year’s buyouts for future reference.

City Updates & Commission Comments

City Police Chief Fred Thompson said in his first year with the Department he’s seen numerous improvements.

KLJ reported the 9th Avenue Northwest project will be receiving concrete in about two weeks. All projects are expected to wind down in the next few weeks.

Mayor Werkhoven noted debris of clay still in some parts of town from the June 20, 2013 flash flooding.

He noted he attended the Devils Lake Water Commission meeting, where it was noted the Lake levels, may possible be lowering by fall.

Commissioner Nielson reported fire fighters passed tests, with a higher than national average score.

She pointed out the first block party is set for Tuesday at 6-p.m., at 6th Avenue.

Commisioner Luke noted new items at the library.
