MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – Sporting dogs will be judged in the categories of nose, search, tracking, pointing, water, desire and cooperation this weekend as part of a North Dakota competition.
The Central Dakota Chapter of North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association is hosting its annual hunt tests at Sweet Briar Recreation Area on Saturday and Sunday.
The chapter’s Sherry Niesar says 13 dogs from North Dakota, Montana and Canada are registered to compete in a full field.
Saturday’s natural ability test is designed to evaluate the inherent abilities of young dogs and gain insight into their potential as versatile gun dogs.
Sunday’s utility test evaluates trained dogs in the water and field, before and after the shot, to see how they perform as versatile hunting companions.
