Valley City, ND August 16, 2013 (KCSi TV) – Two women were seriously injured in a crash about 5:04 p.m., Friday afternoon.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 69-year-old Sandra Burchill of rural Valley City was traveling westbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed and struck an eastbound 2012 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 65-year-old Geraldine Knutson of Valley City at the intersection of Main Street and 2nd Ave SE, which was preparing to turn north onto 2nd Avenue.

The force of the collision sent both vehicles westward, striking 5 other vehicles, both moving and parked vehicles, before coming to rest in front of the VFW.  One car was pushed onto the sidewalk.

Barnes County Fire & Rescue crews extricated both women from their vehicles. Burchill was not wearing a seatbelt.   They both were transported to Mercy Hospital in Valley City, then to Sanford Hospital in Fargo by  ground and air ambulance for treatment of injuries.

Burchill was released.  As of Sunday,  Knutson remained  in serious condition.  Other drivers involved sustained possible minor injuries.  Alcohol was not a factor.  The crash remains under investigation.

Also investigating at the scene were Valley City Police, and the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office.
