Gackle – The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office reports that alcohol was involved as it investigates the death of a Gackle man, on September 6, 2022.
The 57-year-old man died after he was struck by a combine in a field about five miles northeast of Gackle, about 5:40-p.m.
Johannes Steenberg, of Gackle, was standing by a grain cart when a combine driven by 41 year old Ryan Storbeck, of Gackle, came around the cart and struck him. Steenberg, originally from South Africa, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Storbeck is being held at the Stutsman County Correctional Center on suspicion of negligent homicide and driving under the influence. Formal charges are pending.
The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the accident.
Assisting at the scene were: The North Dakota Highway Patrol, Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Gackle Ambulance.
