Gilbert Benson, 85, Jamestown, ND went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday October 14, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Gilbert was born February 20, 1937 at Buchanan, ND, the son of Gilbert and Clara (Skare) Benson. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and also attended Jamestown High School and graduated from high school from the American School in Chicago, IL.  He enlisted in the Army National Guard February 1955 and served until 1961, was decorated with the Sharp shooter medal on the M-1 rifle and then he was discharged with the rank of Sgt E-5.

In 1964 Gilbert met a wonderful gal by the name of Delephine Schauer; they were married July 16, 1966.  He worked for Century Direct Service Company in Casper, WY as a siding contractor for 5 years.  They moved to Sidney, MT where Gilbert started Skyline Siding & Windows.  They enjoyed many years there before moving his business to Jamestown where he worked until retiring in 2015 due to health reasons.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Delephine, Jamestown, ND; his 3 sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews including four special nieces who helped care for him until the end, Shelly, Missy, Tina and Julie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Walter and Marie Schauer; 3 brothers, Arnold, Burton and Edward; 5 sisters, Glady Thelen, Pearl Pruess, Freda Telken, Myrtle Schutt and Lillian Rowell and 2 half-brothers, Benny and Kenneth; as well as several other in-laws.

Gilbert was a man of faith and wrote the following: “I don’t want a sad funeral; I want people to have a joyous time because my spirit will be with the Lord Jesus Christ; put your trust in him because he cares.”
