Update
NDHP On December 28, at approximately 3:00 pm., NDHP Troopers in the Fargo
area responded to a report of a reckless driver/road rage incident. The incident involved a
driver of a vehicle that allegedly discharged a firearm at passing vehicles. One vehicle
reported a broken window from a gunshot. NDHP Troopers located the vehicle near
Mapleton and conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Interstate 94. The suspect was taken into
custody without further incident. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office also assisted during this
incident.
Traffic impacts were minimal, for only a few minutes at the beginning of the stop due to the
high-risk stop. Troopers and Deputies were on scene for about an hour before clearing.
During the investigation, a .177 caliber CO2 pistol was recovered. The suspect in this incident
has been identified as Derrick Hansen (43 YOA, from Plymouth, MN). Hansen is being
charged with Reckless Endangerment (C Felony), Criminal Mischief (A Misdemeanor), and
Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (B Misdemeanor).
The case remains under investigation by the ND Highway Patrol.
