Phyllis (Johnson) Wentz, 95, of Streeter, ND passed away peacefully on Monday April 10, 2023 at the Gackle Care Center, Gackle, ND.

Phyllis was born on October 8, 1927, to Albert G and Amanda (Walters) Johnson in Pettibone, ND. She moved with her family to Dawson, ND where she attended elementary school and later moved with her mother and 6 siblings to Seattle, WA where she graduated from the 8th grade. On November 13, 1984 she earned her GED in Jamestown, ND.

When the US entered World War II, she, along with her younger sister, went to work in the shipyards in Seattle. Following the war, Phyllis and her youngest sister Ruby, hitch hiked back to North Dakota and on December 7, 1946, she and Emil A Wentz were united in marriage by Rev. N. E McCoy, in Jamestown, ND.  The couple made their home in Streeter where they raised their two children. Following the passing of her husband in 1998, Phyllis continued to live in Streeter until June of 2020 when she moved to the Gackle Care Center in Gackle, ND.

Phyllis was an active member of the Hope United Church of Christ involved in Women’s Guild, Sunday School, Youth Fellowship and served on the church council.

She is survived by her son, Cory (Linda) Wentz, daughter Joy (Michael) Molland. 3 grandchildren, Derek (Amanda) Wentz, Nicole (Ryan) Smestad, and Samuel Lunzman and 4 great grandchildren, Makenzie, Addison, Cody, and Raegan Smestad, 2 step granddaughters, Rebecca (Jason) Sinness and Teresa (Kevin) Putchio; and 7 step great grandchildren, Marissa Petitgout, Jakob Putchio, Bethany Putchio, Clara Henson, Emma, Dylan, and Parker Sinness, 1 sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 brothers – Jack, Robert (Bob), Ronald (Ronnie) and 4 sisters – Gilma, Gladys, Ruby, and Alice who died in infancy.

Visitation – 4:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday @ the Haut Funeral Home in Jamestown.
