BISMARCK, N.D. – Cobra Oil and Gas Corporation notified state agencies on May 21 of a saltwater and crude oil spill at a site they operate near Glenburn in Renville County. Initial reports indicate 150 barrels (6,300 gallons) of saltwater and 10 barrels (420 gallons) of crude oil released, impacting agricultural land.

The incident resulted from the malfunction of an oil-water separator. Personnel from the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality are on location and will continue to oversee remediation.

Federal and state laws require operators to report the spillage of materials that may pollute water, air or soil. Visit spill.nd.gov for more information about North Dakota’s Unified Spill Reporting System notifications and the public access tool.
