Mpls, Minn. – UND – Fifth year North Dakota wide receiver Garett Maag has signed with Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent, the organization announced Friday morning. Maag is the second member of last year’s roster to sign with an NFL team, joining Tyler Hoosman who signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as a priority free agent.

Maag spent five seasons with the Fighting Hawks and had 39 nine starts at wide receiver in his career. He was a staple of the North Dakota passing attack throughout his career and is No. 2 in UND’s Division I history for career touchdown receptions with 19. He also ranks third in the Division I record book for career receptions (164) and career receiving yards (2,205). Maag was a leader both on and off the field, with him being voted as a team captain in each of the past three seasons.

In 2022, Maag saw action at wide receiver in every game and had 11 starts. He hauled in 36 receptions for 477 yards and five touchdowns, all marks which ranked second on the team. He also tied for No. 10 in the MVFC with his five receiving touchdowns and was 11th in the conference in both receiving yards (540) and receptions per game (3.4). Maag piled up a season-high 104 yards receiving in the 48-31 win over then-ranked No. 7 Missouri State.

There are now three Fighting Hawks on current NFL Rosters: Maag (Minnesota Vikings), Hoosman (Los Angeles Chargers) and Matt Waletzko (Dallas Cowboys).
