Daryl Sommerdorf 65 Jamestown, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Eventide Jamestown.

Daryl was born August 29, 1958 in Rugby, ND to Carl and Emily Sommerdorf.  Daryl had his grade school education in Minot, Towner and Garrison, ND.  He graduated in 1976 from Jamestown High School.

Daryl entered the Navy right out of school.  He was serving on the USS Enterprise CVN65 aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean.  His flight deck job was fireman.  Off deck job was a barber.  Daryl saw ports of call in Hawaii, Australia, Vietnam, Japan, Philippines, San Francisco and Bremerton, WA.

On returning to North Dakota he worked at Anne Carlson School.  Daryl married Victoria Vigil on July 8, 1983.  They had three children.  He worked second jobs at: Seekins Gas Station, M&H Gas Station, Ave Maria, all of Jamestown.  Daryl worked 28 years at North Dakota State Hospital until a back injury disabled him.  He worked two jobs at all times until 2003, to support his family.

Daryl had two years of post-education at University of Jamestown.  On October 15, 2004 he married Holly Hansen in Valley City, ND.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, reading and playing pool as able.  In 2003 he moved to Jamestown to be closer to medical care.

Daryl is survived by his wife Holly; children Daryl Sommerdorf, Jr., Melissa Sommerdorf, Joshua Herman, all of Jamestown, ND; Bryan (Jennifer) Sommerdorf, Story City, IA, Ryan (Lynda) Herman, Niche, ND; grandchildren Mia, Juda, Emily, Kegan, Chase, Isabella, Victoria Sommerdorf, Story City, IA; step mother Dorothy Sommerdorf, Jamestown, ND; siblings Don (RaeAnn) Sommerdorf, Jeff Foster, Barbara Foster, Debra Anderson, all of Jamestown, ND; R.C. Foster, Phoenix, AZ; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Beverly (Cal) Patzner, Jamestown, ND.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother David.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at church.  Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 14, 2023 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Jennifer McDonald officiating.  Interment will be in Highland Home Cemetery.
